Russia will not impose any sanctions against Ukraine if the country signs the association agreement with the European Union, declared Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, on June 10.

The Ukrainians have to make their own choices. They must decide either to sign the agreement on association and the free trade zone with the EU, or not, the Minister said.

And if Ukraine chooses the association with the EU, which is contrary to a number of obligations of Ukraine to the CIS free trade zone, the benefits which Ukraine receives from the CIS free trade zone, will cease, and the trade relations between Ukraine and Russia will return to the most favoured nation clause. It is a normal trade regime, it is not the sanction, explained S.Lavrov.
