In 2013/14 MY Ukraine decreased the imports of maize seeds from France

In October-July of 2013/14 MY Ukraine imported nearly 8.8 thsd tonnes of maize seeds from France, a decrease of 12% compared with the same period of 2012/13 MY (10 thsd tonnes), and down 15% compared with 2011/12 MY (10.3 thsd tonnes).

It should be noted that traditionally France is one of the three major suppliers of maize seeds to Ukraine. Thus, in the previous 2 seasons France covered nearly 21% of maize seed imports to Ukraine from the general volume of the commodity supplies, and in the current season the index reduced to 16%.

Generally, during the season the volume of maize seed imports to Ukraine increased. So, in October-June of 2013/14 MY Ukraine purchased 55.2 thsd tonnes of the seeds on foreign markets, against 48.7 thsd tonnes in the same period of 2012/13 MY, and 49.6 thsd tonnes in 2011/12 MY.
