According to the first forecasts of APK-Inform analysts, in the current year the planted areas under corn in Ukraine will slightly increase (up 2%) and reached 4.35 mln ha, against 4.26 mln ha last year.

The reporting situation will face a high level of uncertainty about the profitability of corn production in the new season, in terms of the global market pressure, high production costs and difficulties with the availability of mineral fertilizers, said the grain market analyst at APK-Inform Agency, Andrei Kupchenko.

At the same time, he noted that the global market environment is one of the key factors that provide significant impact on formation of the harvest-2017 in Ukraine.

First of all, the issue concerns the global decline of prices for major grain crops, due to record production figures and carry-over stocks. Also, it is important to note changes in the structure of crops planted areas in the main countries-producers. In particular, in the new season the USA will reduce corn areas by 4%, due to expansion of the planted areas under soybeans, which is more marginal crop. Such situation should support the prices, but the current supply surplus on the global market and large-scale carry-over stocks may fuel fears of Ukrainian agrarians about attractiveness of the major export crop in the coming season, explained the expert.
