Russia shipped the first batch of wheat to Venezuela

On August 8, in Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port the first batch of Russian milling wheat received its phytosanitary certificate for shipment to Venezuela. The batch totaled 30.525 thsd tonnes, reported the territorial administration of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) in Krasnodar Krai and the Republic of Adygea on August 16.

The value of the first batch of Russian wheat totaled 6.27 mln USD, informed representatives of the Southern Customs Authority on August 23.

As a reminder, in May 2017 Russia and Venezuela agreed about further supplies of Russian wheat. At the same time, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro declared that the country plans to import nearly 60 thsd tonnes of Russian wheat per month.

To date, Venezuela imports almost 100% of wheat required for its domestic needs. The USA and Canada are the traditional suppliers of wheat, and supply nearly 120 thsd tonnes of the grain per month.
