In 2017, Moldova harvested 1.17 mln tonnes of wheat, with the average yield at 3.8 t/ha. In particular, milling wheat formed 70% of the reporting volumes, declared the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment of the Republic of Moldova, Ion Parya on November 20.

On the nearest days, agrarians will complete the harvesting campaign of corn. According to preliminary figures, its average yield totaled 4.5 t/ha, an increase of 1.5 t/ha compared with last year. Due to reducing of the areas under wheat, sunflower seed areas somewhat increased. To date, its average yield totaled 2.1 t/ha, added I.Parya.

In addition, Moldavian agrarians produced 248 thsd tonnes of barley, with the average yield at 3.3 t/ha, up 0.4 t/ha compared with the 2016 figures. Also, it is expected that in the case of sugar beet yield at 35-41 t/ha, the country's sugar production volumes will exceed 100 thsd tonnes, which will completely cover the domestic needs and allow supplying the product on the global market.

It is noted that the autumn 2016 in Moldova demonstrated quite   drought weather conditions, which made negative effects on the field crops development, but the wet winter weather neutralized all damages.
