Since the beginning of 2017/18 MY, and as of May 17, Russian agrarians planted spring crops throughout the general areas of 25.1 mln ha, or 47.1% of the forecast (in 2017 — 27.8 mln ha), declared the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

In particular, agrarians planted spring grains and pulses throughout 14.3 mln ha, or 46.1% of the planned areas, as opposed to 16.6 mln ha on the same date last year.

So, the planted areas under spring wheat reached 3.5 mln ha (27.4% of the forecast), spring barley — 5.2 mln ha (67.5%), corn for grain — 2.1 mln ha (71.1%), and rice — 144.9 thsd ha (78.6%).

In addition, sunflower seed areas totaled 4.7 mln ha (62.2% of the forecast), spring rapeseed — 542 thsd ha (51.6%), soybeans — 1.3 mln ha (46.7%), and sugar beet — 1.1 mln ha (98.2%).

Also, agrarians provided additional fertilizing of winter crop areas throughout 13.5 mln ha, or 78.8% of the planted areas.
