In January-April of 2018, Belarus imported 138 thsd tonnes of soybeans, up more than 3 times compared with the same period last year, and up 5% compared with the whole year of 2017, reported the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus.
As a reminder, commissioning of a new oilseed processing plant of Sodrugestvo Group of Companies in Smorgon contributed to such significant increase in the imports of soybeans in the current season.
Also, for several recent years the imports of soybeans to Belarus dynamically increased. In particular, in 2016 the annual imports rose to 78 thsd tonnes, as opposed to 6.3 thsd tonnes only in the previous year.
Ukraine still remained the key supplier of soybeans to Belarus, which exported almost 100% of the oilseed volumes to the country.
