In January-May of the current year, Tajikistan imported 14.3 thsd tonnes of flour at the sum of 3.1 mln USD, down 9.1 thsd tonnes compared with the same period in 2017, while the imports of wheat increased by 45.4 thsd tonnes — to 405.4 thsd tonnes (69.3 mln USD), declared the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan on June 19.
According to the announcement, Kazakhstan was still the main supplier of flour and wheat to Tajikistan. However, in the reporting period the country significantly increased grain processing volumes, which led to reduction of the imports of flour. The domestic production covers more than 90% of the domestic needs of flour.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of the first ten-day period of June 2018 Tajikistan produced more than 70.3 thsd tonnes of grain crops.
