Kazakhstan: planted areas under oilseeds for the harvest-2018 increased

According to the Statistics Committee at the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the planted areas under oilseeds for the harvest-2018 in Kazakhstan increased by 14% compared with the same period last year, and broke a record for the country at 2.838 mln ha.

In particular, flaxseed took the largest share in the structure of the planted areas. So, in 2018 agrarians planted the oilseed throughout 1.1 mln ha, against 869.7 thsd ha in 2017.

According to the official statistics figures, mustard seed demonstrated the largest growth rates of the planted areas — up 3.5 times, to a record level of 78.3 thsd ha.

In addition, in the current year agrarians increased the areas under rapeseed — up 47% compared with the figures in 2017, to 374.4 thsd ha.

At the same time, the areas under sunflower seed, safflower seed and soybeans slightly reduced compared with last year. Thus, the sunflower seed areas totaled 864.3 thsd ha (down 4%), safflower seed — 285 thsd ha (down 4%), and soybeans — 126 thsd ha (down 2%).
