In 2018, Kazakhstan exported 170.4 thsd tonnes of lentils, which became the all-time per annum record for the country, reported the Statistics Committee at the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Traditionally, last year Turkey became the key importer of Kazakh pulses, which covered 89% (150.9 thsd tonnes) of the general supplies. Afghanistan (6.4 thsd tonnes, 3.8%) and Iran (6.3 thsd tonnes, 3.7%) took the second and third positions in the rating.

At the same time, in 2018 Kazakhstan reached the record export shipments of lentils in terms of decreasing of its production — down 19% compared with the record figures in the season-2017/18, to 253.6 thsd tonnes. The downward trend developed, due to both reduction of the planted areas under the crop — to 296 thsd ha, against 332 thsd ha in the previous season, as well as decreasing of its yield — to 0.86 t/ha, against 0.95 t/ha.

You can become acquainted with more detailed information about the prospects of the lentils market segment of Kazakhstan, within frames of the second international conference "KazGrain 2019", to be held on April 4-5, in Astana.
