As of May 1, 2019, agricultural organizations of Russia planted spring crops throughout the areas of 9.1 mln ha, an increase of 1.8 times compared with the same date last year. In particular, the planted areas under spring grains and pulses (excluding corn) totaled 4.4 mln ha (up 2.2 times), reported the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).
According to the announcement, the planted areas under spring wheat totaled 1.045 mln ha, up 3.3 times compared with the beginning of May 2018, corn for grain — 799 thsd ha (up 1.3 times), sunflower seed — 1.464 mln ha (up 1.7 times), and sugar beet — 846 thsd ha (up 1.8 times).
As of May 1, the Central, Southern, North Caucasian and Volga Federal Districts provided 96.9% of the whole areas within the planting campaign of spring crops in Russia.
