According to regional divisions of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor), since the beginning of the season-2018/19 (July 1) and as of May 21, Russia already imported 3.3 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds, as well as its by-products, which became somewhat lower compared with the same period last season (3.4 mln tonnes), reported the Federal State-Funded Institution "Federal Centre of Quality and Safety Assurance for Grain and Grain products" on May 24.

At the same time, in the current season the imports of grains and pulses decreased by 10% compared with the last year level — to 658 thsd tonnes, against 729 thsd tonnes.

In the current season, the supplies of 10 major agricultural crops formed the leading share of the reporting import volumes (93%), and as of the reporting date the figures reached 3.1 mln tonnes. For 11 months of the season-2018/19, soybeans still remained the most high-demand crop on the Russian market, which purchases totaled 2 mln tonnes (59% of the general imports), up 2% compared with the same period last season. Wheat took the second position in the rating (15%), but the grain imports decreased by 11% — to 516 thsd tonnes. Kazakhstan became the main supplier of the grain.

Also, Russia increased the imports of rapeseed in 3 times compared with the last year level — to 56 thsd tonnes, as well as peas — up 8 times, to 34 thsd tonnes, due to the growth of the supplies from Kazakhstan.

At the same time, the number of suppliers of the reporting crops to Russia totaled 70 countries, as opposed to 72 in the same period last season. To date, the TOP-3 of leading suppliers included Brazil — 1.1 mln tonnes (33% of the general volumes), Kazakhstan — 763 thsd tonnes (23%), and Paraguay — 738 thsd tonnes (22%).
