Poor harvest results in eastern oblasts of Ukraine, due to dry weather conditions, became one of the key features of 2018/19 MY, declared the General Director of UkrTransAgro LLC and UTA Logistic LLC, Pavel Plotnikov during his speech at the eighteenth international conference Grain & Maritime Days in Odessa on May 31.

Generally, in 2018 Ukraine harvested the record volumes of grain crops at 70 mln tonnes (up 14%). At the same time, due to adverse weather conditions, in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts the average grain yield reduced to 2.59 t/ha, against 3.1 t/ha in 2017, which caused the reduction of harvest to 2.4 mln tonnes only (down 23%), he said.

According to the expert, the poor harvest in the region last year reduced the capacities of the Azov Sea ports for grain exports — to nearly 5% of the general shipped volumes.

At the same time, P.Plotnikov noted that grain producers of the Azov Sea region faced problems with availability of the required number of grain rail cars. In addition, after establishment of the routing process, many linear elevators were closed.
