In 2019, the Ukrainian seaports increased the transshipment volumes of cargoes by 18.4%, and reached the record levels in the whole contemporary history. Thus, for the first time the annual volumes of cargo transshipment of 13 operating ports exceeded 160 mln tonnes, reported the State Enterprise Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA), on January 15.
The Ukrainian agricultural sector made the most significant contribution to formation of the record transshipment volumes. Grain and oilseed cargoes formed more than one third (37.7%) of the general cargo traffic in the Ukrainian ports. Grain transshipment increased by 32% compared with 2018, to 54.6 mln tonnes, added the USPA press-service.
It was noted that in 2019, the transshipment rates increased in all directions: exports, imports, transit, & domestic transportation. But the growth of exports of Ukrainian producers demonstrated the most significant rates — up 22.2%, to almost 121 mln tonnes. The imports increased by 8.7% — to 2.58 mln tonnes. The transit cargo shipments increased by almost 8% compared with the previous year — to 11 mln tonnes.
In addition, in 2019 the Ukrainian seaports processed 11`850 vessels, up 196 ship entries or 1.7% compared with the previous year.
