Kazakh Grain Union forecasted the exports of soft wheat from Kazakhstan to decline by 21% to 4.8 mln tonnes in 2019/20 MY, declared the press-service on January 21.

Over the last years, planted areas under wheat have been declining while the average yield has been staying rather stable. However, the yield declined to 0.9 t/ha in 2019.

“According to Kazakh Grain Union estimation, soft wheat production totaled 10.4 mln tonnes in Kazakhstan in 2019. Thus, overall grain supply reached 12.3 mln tonnes with carry-over stocks at 400 thsd tonnes and import at 1.5 mln tonnes”, – stated in the announcement.

Moreover, experts forecast flour export to halve to 1.24 mln tonnes (in grain equivalent) due to higher wheat production in Uzbekistan and lower quantitative and qualitative indicators of Kazakh wheat.

“Planted areas under barley keep on growing as well as its production despite lower yield last year. Total barley harvest reached 36.6 mln tonnes. However, we expect barley export to decline to 1.3 mln tonnes”, – mentioned in the announcement.
