In 2019/20 MY, Russia will keep its global leadership in the market segment of wheat exports, declared the Deputy Head of the Federal State-Funded Institution "Federal Centre of Quality and Safety Assurance for Grain and Grain products", Mikhail Khanov, on February 14.

The plans for grain exports in the current agricultural year vary at the level of 45.5 mln tonnes. Thus, Russia will take the 4th position in the world in terms of grain exports, covering one eighth of the global market. In terms of wheat exports, Russia continues developing as the all-time leader with the market share of 19%, the expert forecasted.

Also, M.Khanov said that for 7 months of the current season Russia already realized 63% of the plan of 45.5 mln tonnes of grain exports.

In particular, the export plan for wheat was realized at 70%. At the same time, Russia somewhat reduced the export rates of corn compared with the previous plan.

Traditionally, countries of the Middle East are the major sales markets of Russian grain crops. At the same time, Russia increased the exports to Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iran, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, but somewhat decreased the grain shipments to Africa.

Historically, wheat is the driver of Russian grain exports. To date, the export volumes of the crop totaled 69% of the general export plans. The geography of exports reached 97 countries. In the current season, Turkey became the largest importer of Russian wheat, and already purchased 5 mln tonnes of the grain. Last year's leader, Egypt lost the leading position to Turkey, and imported 4.4 mln tonnes only. Also, it is necessary to stress the growth of deliveries to Bangladesh — to 2.1 mln tonnes. In addition, Russia demonstrated the positive dynamics of wheat exports to Azerbaijan (1 mln tonnes), and Kazakhstan (600 thsd tonnes), M.Khanov said.
