In Ukraine, the yield of wheat could be doubled, while the yield of corn could be increased by more than one third, declared the President of the Ukrainian Grain Association, Mykola Gorbachov.
He considered that Ukrainian farmers have a good potential to raise the production of grains. Today, the average yield of Ukrainian wheat is about 4 t/ha, while the yield of French wheat is as high as 8 t/ha. Thus, Ukraine is able to double the production of wheat without the extension of the planted area.
“The harvest of wheat could exceed 50 mln tonnes, while the current record crop is 28 mln tonnes in Ukraine. The production of corn could be tripled to nearly 50 mln tonnes”, - M.Gorbachov supposed.
