Recent seasons proved that the pulses consumption was growing in the world, thus it is reasonably to count on pulses nowadays, declared the Head of Sales with HarvEast Holding, Tatyana Alaverdova within the online conference NICHE: FOCUS ON PULSES on July 30.
She mentioned that HarvEast took the strategy to include pulses into the crop rotation way back.
“Peas is no longer a niche crop for our company. Its share in the overall production exceeds 10%. We take into account that the cultivation of pulses gives +10% to wheat yield next season”, - the expert explained.
T.Alaverdova emphasized the necessity to choose the right varieties and proper cultivation technology. This season, HarvEast counted on winter varieties of peas and succeeded taking into account all risks and dry weather in Ukraine.
She supposed that Europe (Spain, Italy) would be the promising target market in 2020/21 MY. Some volumes of food peas will go to Turkey.
Moreover, she pointed out that the absence of ability to create cooperatives and unions of households as well as to sell for cash is the main problem of this segment in Ukraine.
