In the first ten-day period of August 2020, the agrometeorological conditions were mainly scarcely favorable for agricultural crops, informed the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

“The decline of nighttime temperatures to +7-9°С at the beginning of the reporting period (in some regions of northern, central, western and eastern oblasts) and further growth of maximal air temperatures to +30°С and above as well as high soil temperatures at 10 cm depth and absence of effective precipitation negatively impacted the vegetation of late crops”, - the experts explained.

At the same time, the weather was favorable for the progress of the harvesting campaign of early grains and pulses.

Moreover, the lack or total absence of precipitation caused the further development of soil drought. The metre-deep layer of soil was dry or nearly dry across the many fields of central and southern oblasts.
