Union of poultry breeders of Ukraine, Association of hog breeders of Ukraine and Union of compound feed producers of Ukraine as well as Zhyvotprom Corporation have asked the government of the country to take steps to control corn market to avoid the deficit of the grain on the domestic market. They have send an opened letter to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, the Minister for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture, Ihor Petrashko and the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Roman Leschenko.

“We ask you to task the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine to add the overall annual volume of corn export at the volume 22 mln tonnes at most to the appendix to the grain Memorandum signed by the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine and the participants of the grain market. If this volume is surpassed, the temporary restrictions on corn export should be implemented to provide the inner market with the volumes need for livestock sector”, - is stated in the letter.

The authors of the letter are sure that there is a strong risk of real absence of corn to cover feed needs.

“The current situation is extremely dangerous, and we, as the main consumers of feed corn, are very anxious about the need to have right balance of supply and demand to avoid uncontrolled export and deficit of corn for inner needs of livestock sector. Ukraine may face poor experience of 2003, when it was forced to import grain at prices exceeding those of export”, - is stated in the letter.
