Russian seaports cut grain transshipment by 1.2 times in January

According to the monitoring of APK-Inform, in the period of January 1-31, 2021, the export volumes of major grains from the Russian sea and river ports reached 3.5 mln tonnes, down 14.3% compared with the previous month volumes (4.3 mln tonnes, taking into account the updated figures).

The shipment volumes of wheat traditionally formed the major share in the structure of supplies, and totaled 3.2 mln tonnes, down 13.5% compared with December level. The export volumes of corn decreased by 1.7 times compared with the previous month level to 127 thsd tonnes, barley shipments declined by 1.9 times to 202 thsd tonnes.

In January, Turkey (746.5 thsd tonnes) was the key importer of wheat, Tunisia (72.5 thsd tonnes) was the main destination for barley, and Iran (64.8 tonnes) – for corn.

According to APK-Inform figures, in 2020/21 MY, Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port was the leader of grain foreign shipments — 12 mln tonnes. The port Kavkaz took the second position with its shipment volumes at 10.1 mln tonnes, and port of Taman took the third position — 2.5 mln tonnes.
