Ministry for Development of Economy of Ukraine proposes to impose 0 quota on sunflower seed export until the end of season




The Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine proposes to implement 0 quota on export of sunflower seed for the period from May 15 to September 30, 2021.

“The temporary licensing and zero quotas on export of sunflower seed will allow to stabilize the prices of the oilseed in Ukraine”, - they say. - “Today the demand for sunflower seed from processing plants remains high. The prices of sunflower seed have increased by more than 2.1 times since the start of the current MY due to tough competition on both domestic and global markets. High prices of sunflower seed on the external markets pushed its export up to 183 thsd tonnes in September-March, an increase of 6.8 times compared to the same period of the preceding season”.

They add that the high prices of sunflower seed resulted in sharp appreciation of sunflower oil in Ukraine, as the price of sunflower seed forms about 85% of total sunflower oil production cost.

Currently, the preposition is under discussion.
