Grain crop to exceed 5-year average in Russia

The production of grains and pulses will decline in Russia in 2021, but it will be higher that the multiyear average. Russia produced almost 133.5 mln tonnes of grains and pulses in 2020, declared the head of plant-growing department at the Federal State-Funded Institution “Center of Agricultural Analysis”, Rudolf Bulavin.

The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia forecasts the production of grain at 127.4 mln tonnes in 2021, including about 81 mln tonnes of wheat. Russian experts expect the output at even higher level - 124-129 mln tonnes of grains and 80-83 mln tonnes of wheat.

The Hydrometcenter forecasts the decline of the average yield of winter wheat to 3.4-3.6 t/ha (-0.27 t/ha from the last year) due to the unfavorable weather. The yield of rye will decrease by 0.54 t/ha to 1.8-2 t/ha.

“At the same time, the planted area under spring crops increased. As of  the end of the last week, farmers planted 29.66 mln ha with spring grains (+587 thsd ha), including 13.1 mln ha with wheat (+647 thsd ha), 7.9 mln ha with barley (-462 thsd ha), 3 mln ha with corn (+76.3 thsd ha)”, - R.Bulavin said.
