Russian wheat crop will grow by 7% to 80.7 mln tonnes in 2022, SovEcon forecasts.

Larger production will be possible due to favorable weather conditions for planting in sprouting of winter wheat.

“We estimate the overall planted area of wheat at 28.7 mln ha for 2022, the same as in the preceding year. Smaller winterkilling compared to 2021 will allow to get more of productive winter wheat”, - the experts say.

Soil moisture content is higher or close to the average in southern and central Russia. At the same time, the planted area under spring wheat will decline as an export duty forces farmers to switch to other crops.

“Favorable rains in early autumn promoted the accumulation of moisture content across the country. Generally, the condition of winter wheat is the best over the last several year”, - they add.
