Russia raised barley supply to Turkey by 15 times

According to APK-Inform, Russia increased significantly export of barley to Turkey in 2021/22 MY. It supplied 626.2 thsd tonnes of barley to Turkey in July-October, up by more than 15 times y/y and up by 2 times compared to the full result of 2020/21 MY. Thus, Turkey turned into the largest importer of Russian barley.

Lower production of barley in Turkey this season and small carry-over stocks pushed the demand for Russian barley. The USDA forecasts Turkey to import 2.7 mln tonnes of barley in 2021/22 MY, up by almost 4 times y/y.

According to APK-Inform, in July-October 2021/22 MY, Ukraine and Russia exported 1.4 mln tonnes of barley to Turkey. Thus, these countries have covered more than 50% of the Turkish barley import potential.
