Kazakhstan harvested 16.6 mln tonnes of grains and pulses in 2021, the official data says. It is the lowest volume since 2012. The production is down 18% compared to the previous year. Wheat crop totaled 11.8 mln tonnes, down 17% y/y.

APK-Inform says that the main reason of production decrease was the low average yield of grains formed due to the adverse weather conditions. The average yield of grains and pulses totaled 1.04 t/ha in 2021, down 19% y/y. Wheat yield was 0.93 t/ha, down 21% y/y.

Lower production cut the export potential of Kazakhstan. APK-Inform forecasts grain export from Kazakhstan at 7 mln tonnes, down 2% y/y. At the same time, wheat export may grow by 4% to 6 mln tonnes due to the decrease of the domestic consumption by 11% to 7.9 mln tonnes. However, wheat import to Kazakhstan will increase by 19% to 700 thsd tonnes.
