According to preliminary estimation by APK-Inform, only 4.7 mln ha will be planted with spring grains in Ukraine in 2022, down 39% y/y.

Russian invasion in Ukraine and ongoing military activity make farmers unable to start spring planting in many key producing regions. The situation is worsen by the disruption of resources supply chains that will affect a size of planted area and yields of crops. Moreover, farmers cannot get the seeds they have booked and even paid. It can cause further decline of corn planted area.

Situation with winter crops is negative as well. Taking into account the current map of military activity, out of 7.6 mln ha planted with winter wheat, rye and barley, only 5.5 mln ha could be available for harvesting that correspond with 28% of loss.

Access to fuel, fertilizers, machinery and labor forces will influence the spring planting campaign too. Thus, the estimations will be revised along with the development of the military activity in Ukraine.
