In 2022, Ukraine may harvest 63 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds throughout 20 mln ha, forecasts the Ukrainian Grain Association.

Wheat crop may total 18.2 mln tonnes, down from the last year’s record of 33 mln tonnes. However, this volume is still 3 times higher than the annual domestic consumption in Ukraine. The carry-over stocks of wheat of the harvest-2021 are close to 10 mln tonnes. Taking into account the expected crop size and the stocks, Ukraine can export up to 10 mln tonnes of wheat in 2022/23 MY.

Barley crop may amount to 6.2 mln tonnes in 2022 (10.1 mln tonnes in 2021). The export of barley is forecasted at 2 mln tonnes. Corn crop and export can be at 23.1 mln tonnes (37.6 mln tonnes in 2021) and 20 mln tonnes correspondingly.

The UGA forecasts sunflower seed production at 9.8 mln tonnes (16.9 mln tonnes), rapeseed – 1.5 mln tonnes (2.9 mln tonnes), soybean – 1.8 mln tonnes (3.5 mln tonnes). Rapeseed export in 2022/23 MY may total 1.3 mln tonnes, soybean export – 0.6 mln tonnes.

The overall export of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine in 2022/23 MY can reach 35 mln tonnes, in case if the country manages to increase the capacity of all logistic facilities under the condition of blocked ports.

“Today, capacity of alternative export routes is 600 thsd tonnes per month. All measures took by the government and business allows expending this capacity to 2 mln tonnes per month. We need to further expand our logistic capacity at the borders with the EU to 3 mln tonnes per months to be able to export 35 mln tonnes of grains and oilseeds”, – the UGA said.
