Nearly half of Ukrainian oblasts completed planting early spring crops

As of May 5, 12 Ukrainian oblasts – Vinnytsia, Volyn, Zhytomyr, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Odessa, Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi – have completed planting early spring crops. Generally, almost 80% of planned area of early spring crops have already been planted, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy informed.

The ministry forecasts the area under major spring crops to total 14.139 mln ha across the territory controlled by Ukraine, down by 2.778 mln ha compared to 2021.

Farmers of all oblasts of Ukraine except Luhansk have already planted:

  • spring wheat – 186.1 thsd ha
  • spring barley – 853.8 thsd ha
  • spring rapeseed – 26.2 thsd ha
  • oats – 153.5 thsd ha
  • peas – 119.6 thsd ha
  • buckwheat – 5 thsd ha
  • millet – 18.2 thsd ha
  • corn – 1.977 mln ha
  • sunflower seed – 2.399 mln ha
  • soybean – 335.5 thsd ha
  • sugar beet – 175.4 thsd ha

Moreover, farmers provided the first application of nitrogen mineral fertilizers for winter crops.
