The USDA forecasts Ukrainian corn export in 2022/23 MY at very low level of only 9 mln tonnes. They left steady their forecast for 2021/22 MY export at 23 mln tonnes.

The Ukrainian ports remained blocked after the start of the Russian military invasion on February 24. The country is trying to export as many grain as it can through land western borders. Before the war started, Ukraine had prospects to ship massive 33.5 mln tonnes of corn.

As a reminder, according to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, since the start of 2021/22 MY (July 1) and as of May 11, Ukraine has exported 21.495 mln tonnes of corn, Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said.

In 2020/21 MY Ukraine supplied 23.86 mln tonnes of corn to the foreign markets, according to the USDA.

The USDA expects the production of corn in Ukraine to decline to 19.5 mln tonnes in 2022/23 MY, down sharply from 42.13 mln tonnes in 2021/22 MY and 30.3 mln tonnes in 2020/21 MY.

They forecast corn carry-over stocks to amount to 8.1 mln tonnes in Ukraine in 2022/23 MY. The analysts also upped their forecast of corn stocks for 2021/22 MY from 6.5 mln tonnes seen in April to 6.77 mln tonnes. The USDA estimates Ukrainian corn stocks at 0.83 mln tonnes in 2020/21 MY.
