Three currently functioning Ukrainian ports – Reni, Izmail and Ust-Dunaisk – are operating in full force. To increase their cargo turnover is possible only through medium and long term solutions, in particular, the construction of new transshipment facilities, Dmytro Barinov Deputy Head of Seaports Administration of Ukraine said on June 27.
"There are 18 ports in Ukraine. 5 of them were occupied in 2014, another 4 were occupied after the start of a full-scale invasion of Russia. Also, 6 Ukrainian ports are blocked from the sea. That is, there are only 3 operating ports in the Danube region. In March they transshipped 400 thsd tonnes of cargo, mostly agricultural products, and in May – about 1.3 mln tonnes. We plan to increase their cargo turnover to 1.5 mln tonnes in May", – he said.
Before the war, in total, Ukrainian ports shipped about 5 mln tonnes of agricultural products per month.
