In the second ten-day period of October, weather conditions were satisfactory for growth and development of winter crops in Ukraine, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy informed citing Institute of Agriculture of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
“In the second ten-day period of October, the weather was moderately cool with light rains in some oblasts. The average temperature was 1.8-5°С higher than the norm in most oblasts”, – the experts said.
The Institute said that the winter grains planted in optimal time were in the phase emerging/tillering.
As of October 20, late spring crops (buckwheat, sunflower seed, corn) were fully matured.
“Plants are in good condition, except sunflower seed. Excessive rains resulted in widespread fungus disease on sunflower seed plantings”, – they said.
