According to preliminary estimates by APK-Inform Agency, sunflower seed exports from Ukraine in 2023/24 MY may amount to about 1.4 mln tonnes, which is 39% lower year-on-year.

A rather restrained estimate against the background of the volume indicators of the two previous seasons is due to a number of factors. First of all, protests in Europe and the likelihood of the ban on the import of Ukrainian raw materials to a number of EU countries may act as a factor in the reduction.

The next factor also applies to Europe: according to preliminary estimates, in 2023, the planting area under sunflowerseeds is expected to expand in the EU, especially in the eastern part, which will not benefit prices and demand for Ukrainian oilseeds.

It is also worth noting that sunflower processing on the domestic market has picked up in recent months, but the term of operation of the grain corridor and the probability of its next extension still raise many questions.

We will discuss the prospects of the oilseed market of Ukraine and Black Sea region at the international conference VegOil Trade, to be held on June 8-9 in Rotterdam. The report on this topic will be presented by Iryna Ozip, Marketing Director with APK-Inform Agency.
