Ministry of Agrarian Policy raises outlook for Ukraine's harvest of grains and oilseeds




The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine revised its forecast for the overall grain production, raising it to 59.7 million tonnes. The outlook for oilseeds production remains steady at 21.6 million tonnes. Consequently, the combined forecast for the total production of grains and oilseeds in 2023 has risen to 81.3 million tonnes, representing an increase from the October estimate of 79.1 million tonnes, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy on December 8.

According to preliminary estimates of the Ministry, in 2023 Ukraine will harvest 22.2 mln tonnes of wheat, 5.8 mln tonnes of barley, and 30.1 mln tonnes of corn. As for oilseeds, the forecast for sunflower seed harvest is projected to remain at 13 million tonnes, while soybeans are forecasted to reach 4.6 million tonnes. Rapeseed harvesting has been completed and production totaled 4 mln tonnes.

"The yield of grains has seen a notable increase, reaching 5.47 t/ha. This sets a new record for Ukraine, surpassing the previous peak in 2021 at 5.36 t/ha. This significant achievement has prompted a revision of this year's crop production volume, specifically elevating the forecast for corn production from 28.5 mln tonnes to over 30 mln tonnes," the message emphasizes.

The ministry also pointed out that the combined area of spring and winter grains this year decreased by 980 thsd ha compared to the previous year, totaling 10.895 mln ha.
