Currently, it is difficult to forecast 2023 harvest of agricultural crops in Ukraine, as they will largely depend on the weather and climatic conditions during the field works as well as the financial and logistical support of each farmer, first Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotsky stated.

"It will also depend on the availability of seeds and fertilizers. Even now, it is possible to predict up to 50% decrease in their application from scientifically based norms due to the increase in prices. The use of cheaper technologies provokes a decrease in production", – he said.

T. Vysotsky also emphasized that due to the Russian invasion the agricultural sector of Ukraine suffered enormous losses – decrease in cultivated areas, production reduction, reduction in exports, expensive logistics, etc.

All these factors as well as weather conditions will affect the spring planting campaign. According to preliminary data, as of December 30, the expected planted area for the 2023 harvest in all categories of farms in the territory controlled by Ukraine should be 21.8 mln ha, which is 6.8 mln ha less than in 2021 (28.6 mln ha).

"If we are talking about the planting campaign, at the moment we cannot use approximately 25% of the areas due to hostilities or temporary occupation of the territories. After de-occupation, it will take a lot of time to demine and clean the territories. Another part of the area could not be planted due to unfavorable weather conditions. Therefore, in the spring, we need to cover the deficit of unsown winter crops", – T. Vysotsky said.
