The current problems with supplies of Russian wheat to Egypt, due to requirements of zero ergot fungus content in the imported grain, will not have any significant influence on the export potential of Russia, declared the Director of the Department of regulation of agricultural markets at the Ministry of Agriculture, Vladimir Volik on September 14.

According to him, such decision of Egypt will surely have some effect on Russian wheat exports. But the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) and the Ministry of Agriculture are working to solve the issue. On the other hand, Russian traders are looking for other markets. Of course, Egypt occupied some share in the structure of Russian wheat exports, but there are many other markets.

Also, V.Volik added that Egypt will not be able to completely refuse from Russian wheat imports. To date, the Egyptian party plans to get some vague benefits from such position on ergot content.
