Russia will increase the export volumes of grains, and find a substitute for Turkey, but it will take some time, reported the Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) Sergey Dankvert.

According to him, Russia will increase the supply of grains to other countries instead of Turkey. But taking into account the previous large-scale volumes of Russian grain imported by Turkey, the reporting reorientation of grain shipments will take some time.

S.Dankvert called Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Saudi Arabia as the prospective markets for Russian wheat, the Philippines and Indonesia - for Russian corn.

To date, Rosselkhoznadzor is looking for new sales markets for Russian grains, including Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia — for wheat, China — for buckwheat, oats, flaxseed, sunflower seeds, grain by-products, the Philippines and Indonesia — corn, rye, soybeans, as well as Mexico.

S.Dankvert believes that it is necessary to increase the domestic production of corn, as the grain has sufficient sales markets. It is a signal not only for diversification of supplies, but also for diversification of production. Therefore, Russia has to enlarge corn harvest volumes. To date, production of additional 5 mln tonnes of corn is more promising than 5 mln tonnes of wheat, because there are several sales markets for corn — Iran, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Also, Japan is starting to consume corn.
