Absence of rains and very warm sometimes hot weather promoted further intensifying and extension of air and soil drought in Ukraine during the second ten-day period of September, informed the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

“Cumulative amount of precipitation from August 1 to September 20 (period of accumulation and formation of soil moisture content for winter planting) was as low as 10-30% of the norm across most of the country”, - the experts said.

There were no efficient rains in Ukraine during the first and second ten-day period of September (except western oblasts and some northern oblasts where the rains were lower than the norm). There were no rains during 50-60 days in most oblasts.

“The moisture content in top-soil was absent or near-absent across 60-70% of area designed for winter planting. The moisture content would be sufficient for planting, germination and sprouting only across 10-15% of the area in western part of the country”, - was stated in the message.

At the same time, such weather conditions favor drying of corn, soybean as well as harvesting of late crops.

“In the short-term, the weather will remain dry and warm across the entire territory of Ukraine up to September 27”, - the experts added.
