On October 7, the final voting on the opening of European market for Ukrainian grain, corn and sorghum seed took place on the session of the European Parliament. The decision was made in favor of Ukraine. 491 representatives of the European Parliament voted for recognizing of Ukrainian seed certification system as complying with the European standards.
Currently, European market is the most attractive for Ukrainian seeds. The opening of this market was long and complicated. Seed Association of Ukraine made significant efforts to beat the obstacles and get the effective communication with authorized European institutions.
The executive director of the Association, Suzanna Grigorenko said that it’s the real victory for Ukrainian seed sector.
“Almost 10 years ago, seed companies, members of Seed Association of Ukraine, determined the compliance with the European standards as one of the strategical issue. In 2015, Ukraine successfully passed the audit of the EU. And now we have got the positive result. The decision of the European Parliament puts the Ukrainian seed in line with those from Europe and other countries”, - S.Grigorenko said.
“We were looking forward for the decision of the European Parliament as it will improve the reputation and strengthen the position of Ukrainian seed producers on the global market providing them with great opportunities”, - the Chairman of the Board of Seed Association of Ukraine, Viktor Karibovsky (Limagrain Ukraine) added.
