In the first days of July in some oblasts in Ukraine there were quite difficult weather conditions, influencing the harvest and crop condition of early grains. In particular, according to Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center there were abundant rains in Odessa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Donetsk oblasts, where in some areas precipitation level reached from 32 to 76 mm per day, accompanied by squally wind. As a result, there  local flooding and lodging of grains were reported in some fields in these oblasts which complicate the harvest significantly and may lead to crop losses.

According to APK-Inform Agency in these oblasts there are 3.2 mln ha of planting areas under wheat and 1.4 mln ha under barley which is 46% and 57% respectively of the total planting areas in the country. At the same time, according to forecasts of meteorologists, in the coming days there is a high possibility of adverse weather conditions with abundant rains, which will only increase risks of crop losses.

Nevertheless, at the beginning of the harvest campaign barley yield is quite high which can compensate possible crop losses. In particular, in Odessa oblasts according to current data, as of July 1, 2021 average barley yield totaled 4.22 t/ha against 1.35 t/ha on the corresponding date last year.
