According to APK-Inform estimations, for 5 months of 2019/20 MY Ukraine significantly increased the export supplies of wheat to Turkey, which reached 886 thsd tonnes, and moved the country to the TOP-5 importers of the Ukrainian grain. The figures increased in 6.8 times compared with the same period last season (131 thsd tonnes), and up almost 2.5 times compared with the export volumes for the whole 2018/19 MY (361 thsd tonnes).

The expected growth of wheat imports to Turkey became one of the major reasons for increasing of wheat purchases from Ukraine. According to the USDA experts, in the season-2019/20 Turkey will import 7.2 mln tonnes of wheat, up 13% compared with the last year volumes. At the same time, the estimations of the domestic consumption of wheat in Turkey remained at the last season level (18.1 mln tonnes), which in terms of the stable level of production, will contribute to the growth of the carry-over stocks to 6.4 mln tonnes in 2019/20 MY, against 5.1 mln tonnes last season (up 25%).

Traditionally, Russia and Ukraine became the main exporters of the grain to Turkey, which in 2018/19 MY covered nearly 88% of the Turkish imports (5.6 mln tonnes from the general volumes of 6.4 mln tonnes). For five months of the current MY, the general supplies from the reporting countries to Turkey already totaled a little more than 5 mln tonnes. At the same time, if in 2018/19 MY the share of Ukrainian wheat covered 6% only of the general structure of wheat supplies from Russia and Ukraine, then for five months of 2019/20 MY the figures increased to 18%, said the analyst of APK-Inform Agency.

Thus, in July-November period of 2019/20 MY Russia and Ukraine together covered nearly 70% of the general expected volumes of wheat supplies to Turkey.
