Over the period from January 1 to 30, Russia exported 3.74 mln tonnes of wheat, which is 2.2 times higher y/y, Interfax reports citing Russian Grain Union.
As noted by Elena Turina, Director of the Analytical Department of the RGU, shipments of Russian corn also began to grow in January, after declining in previous months. January export of corn is estimated at 492 thsd tonnes, which is 58% more than a year earlier. The export of barley also increased up to 124 thsd tonnes against 102 thsd tonnes.
In total, from January 1 to 30, shipments of major grains and pulses from Russia amounted to 4.39 mln tonnes, which is almost twice as much as in January 2022.
“Demand for Russian grain is actively growing. This allows us to expect that more than 4.4 mln tonnes of major grains and pulses will be shipped in full month of January, which is more than twice as high as in January 2022. Particularly, wheat export may reach 3.8 mln tonnes against 1.172 mln tonnes a year earlier”, – Tyurina said.
In total, for seven months of 2022/23 season, Russian grain export is projected at mln tonnes, including 31 mln tonnes of wheat.
“For the period from February to July 1, 2023, the export potential will be 27.7 mln tonnes of all major grain, including 21 mln tonnes of wheat. That is, the export quota, which will come into force on February 15 in the amount of 25.5 mln tonnes, was calculated quite adequately”, – the expert added.
